What is breast reconstruction?
Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure to restore the shape and look of the breast after a mastectomy (complete removal of the breast) or lumpectomy (partial removal). This surgery is an option for women who wish to restore their breast contour after cancer treatment.
Types of reconstructive surgery:
There are two main approaches to breast reconstruction, and choosing the right one depends on personal preference, medical history, and the stage of recovery. Each method has its advantages, and a surgeon can help determine the best option based on your individual needs.
1. Implant-Based Reconstruction
This involves using silicone or saline implants to recreate the breast shape.
2. Autologous or “Flap” Reconstruction

When can reconstruction occur?
